Beam Saber Kickstarter and V0.5
Hello!
I am writing you because you purchased a PDF of Beam Saber when it was still in beta. Thank you for taking a chance on my game! Your support has allowed me to lower the initial funding goal for the Kickstarter by covering many of the initial costs involved.
Speaking of the Beam Saber Kickstarter, I'm sure you are wondering what that means for you, since you already purchased the game. You will continue to get all the rules updates throughout and following the KS, so if you don't want a print copy, you're golden. However if you DO want a print version, one of the other rewards, or just want to support me further, you'll have to become a backer. If you are concerned about buying the PDF a second time by backing at the print level, please note that the cost of the PDF is ZERO in the reward tiers that provide print copies. So you'll be getting a second PDF free and can give the download key as a gift!
This update to V0.5 will be the last update to the rules for a while, but it's a pretty big one! Highlights include a new section on Pilot Name/Callsign/Pronouns, a section on How To End A Campaign, and new art for the example Vehicles! Here's the full changelog:
CHANGELOG FOR V0.5
- Made the GM Principles section's directions regarding Mission preparation more in line with the Planning A Mission section.
- Changed the "Salaryperson" Bureaucrat example to "Manager" and replaced "Consort +2" with "Command +2."
- Rewrote the Squad Upgrade section a bit so that it is better differentiated from the old/removed Claims rules.
- Clarified in all the abilities that reduce Quirk expenditure on resistance that it is reduced to a minimum of 1. That's Bureaucrat's "Beneath Notice", Infiltrator's "Never Tell Me The Odds", Scout's "Lay Of The Land", Soldier's "Bodyguard", and The Frontline's "Forged In The Fire".
- Clarified that REDACTED is read as REDACTED.
- Clarified that the Scout's Drone Carrier drones must all have the same gear equipped.
- Clarified that the Technician’s Payload Bay uses the same chemicals as the Bandolier, and that the contents are decided on each use.
- Clarified that when the Hacker's HackRig is carrying Valuable Data, said data may be 1 or more Load.
- Added descriptions of future art to their locations in the book.
- Changed the Scout's XP trigger from "tracking or violence" to "exploration or violence."
- Changed the Scout ability Focused from "push yourself for ranged combat or tracking" to "push yourself for ranged combat or exploration."
- Moved the addition of Vehicle Actions from Vehicle Creation to Pilot Creation because they are tied to the Pilot and not the Vehicle.
- Rearranged the Pilot Creation process slightly for increased clarity.
- Added a Manufacturer to the Comet Chrome example Vehicle.
- Added art for the Ape, Elephant, Strafe MK16, Kettle 2.0, E.E.L, Balisong, and Comet Chrome example Vehicles.
- Clarified that the Profiteers' Squad ability "Barter" has a minimum cost of 1 Supply Point.
- Updated the Journey City map to include district borders and names.
- Added a "How To End A Campaign" section to the Game Master chapter.
- Clarified that Vehicle Look affects the mechanics through Beam Saber's Fiction First Gaming play style.
- Added a "Pilot Name, Callsign, and Pronoun" section. I apologize that it has taken me this long to write it.
- Added some details about how to use Clocks for narrative purposes to the "Clocks" section.
- Added sections for "Changing The Setting," "Faster Drives," and "More Powerful Pilots" to Appendix A: Alternate Rules.
- Added clarity to the Downtime Activities section about what supply points are spent to get extra downtime activities.
- Added a section called "Adding A New Pilot" that explains how to include new Pilots.
- Added additional information to the "How To Choose An Action" section for clarification regarding situations where no Action seems suitable.
- Added additional information to the "Direct Superiors" section on what to do if the Direct Superior offers an order or mission that is disagreeable.
- Clarified the Bureaucrat's "Red Tape" ability's relationship with Quirks.
- Removed a forgotten reference to Tier VI squads.
- Repeatedly using the Collect downtime activity now causes a cumulative -1d penalty.
- Clarified how Faction Relationship affects Squads' behaviour in that section.
Once again, thank you for your early support, and I hope that you will tell everyone you know about the Kickstarter.
